The First of (hopefully) Many

Idk if you guys remember a bit ago, I put out a call for you guys to ask me questions and I would answer them here on this blog (Check out the post here). Well, I’ve gotten a few answers via messages, and I think it’s time I start answering them. The first one I want to answer was left as a comment on my blog.

Question: What is the most exciting thing to happen in my spiritual formation?

One of the most exciting things that has happened in my spiritual formation (other than my coming to know Christ) has been being apart off the things that happen here at GCC, both on the tech side with my job, but also on the Youth side where I volunteer. To see God grow the people I work with, and through serving to see God grow me. That has been so cool, and really made a huge difference into who I am today.

I firmly believe that serving in a church somewhere is one of the greatest ways to grow spiritually. In the bible (I forget where, maybe I’ll look it up, or you can if your interested) it says something like “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” This is because growth should happen relationally, and when you serve with people, you can’t help but build close relationships with them. This is a concept that is not new to us. In Henry V, William Shakespear writes “From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remember’d; We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother” there is a bond formed when you serve together. And that bond will sharpen you as you sharpen them.
