The Power of A Word

The Power of A Word

How many of you today have spoken words today? How many of you that spoke words, said them about someone (good or bad)? Did you know that if you have spoken words today, you have exercised the greatest power EVER?

In fact, words, not technology, is the only thing to ever truly change the world. Think about it.

– It was a man with words that convinced an entire nation of people that blond haired, blue eyed Germans were the best, the Jews were to blame for everything, but he, as a brown haired, brown eyed, half Jewish Austrian, should be their leader.

– It was a man with his words “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” that inspired us to put a man on the moon.

– It was a man with his words that inspired a generation to not judge people based on the color of their skin, but the content of their character.

– It was with a word that everything you see was created. (Genesis 1)

– It was a man with his words that spoke of a God of love to 12 people, and it changed their lives

– It was that same man who, when he announced who he was, caused them to draw back and fall to the ground (John 18:5)

– It was those same people that then took his words and shared it with others and that has changed the course of history forever!

Those last 4 were God, Jesus, the disciples.

God puts so much emphasis on Words, in Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26, I could go on and on about how with only words, God created. God said “let there be light”, God said “lets make man in our own image”, meaning that we are set apart, different, from animals. People smarter and more studious than me have tried to figure out what that means. Do we physically look like God? Do we have a soul and animals don’t? They have tried over and over and argued and argued about this. But you know what I think it means? I think it means we have the ability to create, and to love our creations.

In the book of John, John starts off with saying “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” then later on it says “Then the Word became flesh”. The same Word that created everything became flesh.

So what? Why am I droning on and on, and boring you all with this “word” crap? You words have the same power. Have you thought about that? God gave you the same power he used to create the world.

With a word, you could literally make the difference between life and death for someone. Have you ever been having a crappy day, and out of no where, someone says something nice, and it made your day? I know that has happened so many times to me. At the same time, I cannot count the number of times when I was feeling down, and someone said something and it ruined my day.

I wonder what this world would look like if we all began to understand the power of a word, and began to pick the words we said very carefully?

  1. Can I just say what a relief to find someone who especially knows what they’re talking about on the internet. You always know how to bring an issue to light and make it ample. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.

    • Thanks! I’ve blogged inconsistently before, but I’ve realized that many of the things I think about are things other people think about. I figured I’d start posting my struggles, my thought, my ideas, so if others read it and it helps them, then GREAT, but if no one reads it, that’s fine, since it’s mostly for me…
